Our office is homey and comfortable, so that you and your family will feel at ease. Recently, a client came for a tour and interview. She brought her 3 year old son and 5 year old daughter. They toured the birth center and the woman filled out paperwork and had an interview with the midwife while her kids played with the toys in the waiting room. As she got ready to leave, her 5 year old asked: "Mommy, when are we going to the doctor's office?" They had been in our office for an hour and the little girl had no idea it was a medical office.

Pre-natal visits are relaxed, lasting 30-45 minutes. There is lots of time to ask questions and get to know the staff. We want you to be informed and in control and encourage you to make your own choices about your health care. We invite you to bring your other children, your spouse, or any other friends and family. Want to bring your mother to hear the heartbeat? Sure, we'd love to meet her. One recent client said that pre-natal visits "were like sitting down with a friend". By allowing your children to participate in pre-natal visits, we gently introduce the older siblings to the new baby. You are the ones who are creating a family, we are simply here to support you.

We tailor our care to your needs. One of the reasons why pre-natal visits are long is so that we can get to know you and what is important to you. Clients have many different reasons for seeking out-of-hospital care and we want to know what you are looking for, so that we can meet your needs. Some people choose the birth center because they have a fear (or discomfort) with doctors and hospitals; others want to bond with their newborn undisturbed by hospital procedures; some women simply want the privacy and freedom to walk around during labor and not have monitors strapped to their body. Whatever your reason for considering an out-of-hospital birth, you are probably not the first birth center client to have the same desires.
